Our Mission
The mission of CNS is to provide valuable experience in a healthcare setting to undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in the field. Specifically, the program is designed to allow students to interact with patients visiting the clinic while learning more about research, neurology, and genomics.
Student Role
CNS is a student-run volunteer organization where volunteers help with the clinical research process on the patient side. During weekly shifts, volunteers enroll and assist in consenting patients, assist in transporting viable biological samples, and phenotype enrolled patients to identify relevant neurological conditions to be studied. Volunteers are stationed at the Neurology Clinic at Ronald Reagan Medical Center and the Clinical Neurogenomics Research Center in Gonda.
Outside of volunteering, CNS members participate in one of three committees: research, education, and outreach. These committees participate in UCLA and LA-wide activities to enrich our community involvement and the progression of scientific research. Students are also given the opportunity to attend the UCLA Neurology Grand Rounds, which are weekly seminars held by world renowned guest scientists that cover a variety of topics related to neurology, genomics, and clinical research. Guest lecturers are also invited to share with CNS members their research and findings in the field of neurogenomics.
